Client Need:
The University of Michigan wanted the best student recruiting CD-ROM in the world. They had seen our other award-winning university virtual tours, and came to us. The objective of the CD is to highlight the world-class academics and lifestyle at Ann Arbor. They wanted to shoot the video themselves, making use of their in-house video services, and have PerformTech create the interface, interaction, and manage the project.
PerformTech Solution:
We designed and produced a stunning CD-ROM with over 50 unique screens and five main sections - Academics, Campus Life, Housing, Admissions, and Ann Arbor. The interface is playful in some sections, and sophisticated in others, mirroring the content. There are games like the Language Game, in which players hear, and then identify over 30 languages spoken at the university; an MP3 player with local Ann Arbor bands; and a "Man on the Street" section with candid student interviews. By optimizing the media, we were able to fit over 200 videos of faculty and staff, dozens of 360 degree panoramas, 20 MP3 songs, and games. Response among prospective students (and even faculty) has been overwhelmingly positive. Due to the success of the product, the University of Michigan will press 150,000 of the CDs annually to send to high school students and alumni.
