Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety and Accommodation Training Course
Client Need:
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) had a need to update its Safety Accommodations Course to meet the needs of the “new generation” of professionals working on pedestrian and bicycle safety and make some of the information available to a wider audience through web-based delivery methods
PerformTech Solution:
PerformTech was selected by FHWA to develop a recommendation on what should be done to update and repackage the three-day Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety & Accommodations Course. A feasibility study was conducted to determine what type of training support was needed and how that support should best be delivered. The recommendation was to develop three stand-alone Web-based exercises (described below) and to develop six PowerPoint presentations.
The PowerPoint slides are intended to present the issues, define the state of the art, and direct viewers to recommended sources. Six presentations, which can easily be downloaded from the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) website, can be used “as is” individually, customized with state or local information, or grouped together to provide a tailored presentation. The target audience for the first presentation is decision makers, such as a mayor or county council members. The remaining five presentations are intended for State and local pedestrian and bicycle transportation professionals.
