PerformTech Recognized for Prestigious Interactive Media Award

PerformTech Wins Bronze at the 8th Annual Horizon Interactive Awards Competition

Alexandria, VA, May 15, 2009. The Horizon Interactive Awards, a leading international interactive media competition, announced the 2009 award winners to highlight this year’s “Best of the Best” in interactive media production. PerformTech was recognized with a Bronze Award in the Government category for their excellence in training through use of customized and interactive gaming. This prestigious acknowledgement speaks to PerfomTech’s extraordinary creativity and attention to detail when creating La Chamba, the Spanish Immersion Interactive Scenario Game.

The character-animated video game was used to teach Spanish skills to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. With a striking blend of artistic and programming expertise, La Chamba invokes an interactive style of learning that challenges students to use their language skills in a rewards-based environment.

“The game is non-linear,” explained Tom Pizer, Director of Interactive Media at PerformTech, “which allows the agents to advance in different ways. Performtech is thrilled to have won such a sought-after award for La Chamba—we worked hard and are proud of this recognition.”

The eighth annual Horizon Interactive competition included over 2000 entries from 32 countries around world, as well as nearly all 50 U.S. states. An international panel of judges consisting of industry professionals and an end-user panel evaluated 19 different categories, ranging from online advertising to video games. The 2009 winning entries showcase the industry’s best interactive media solutions including web sites, CDs and DVDs, online ads, documentaries, and more.

“The overall quality of entries was far and away the best we have ever had, and judging was very competitive,” said Mike Sauce, founder of Horizon Interactive Awards. He cited the technical excellence of all submissions, confirming that winning entries “truly are the best of the best!”
