Bicycle Safety Education Resource Center

 

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) was directed by Congress to develop a curriculum for bicycle safety for children and adults. The FHWA sought PerformTech to help them identify the essential topics required for any bicycle training program and the content to address in each of those topics. Furthermore, the FHWA needed to develop an easy way to disseminate this information to practitioners nationwide.

 

PerformTech convened a national panel of bicycle experts to determine what learning objectives and topics should be considered to span seven learning groups varying from children, adults, and professionals. PerformTech produced a curriculum matrix for each of these groups and identified content that would address each topic. A searchable database was created for FHWA's website to allow practitioners to identify the best content for their specific needs. A best practices review was conducted and case studies developed to determine the usability of the solutions.
